2007 Wrestling

The Closter Recreation Wrestling program is open to boys from 2nd to 8th grade from Closter, Demarest and Haworth.

Anyone who missed the registration can come to the Demarest High School Wrestling Room on Monday December 4th at 6:30 pm.

Come up the hill behind the school (from Columbus) turn left at top of the hill. Enter rear hallway, Wrestling Room is on left side.

9 and 12 yr olds advance to finals

This past weekend 4 of our fall baseball teams made it into the playoffs with the 9 and 12 yr olds advancing. 9 u advanced beating Teaneck 11-1 and the 12u defeated Glen rock 11-1.

our 8 u team came up short against Paramus 8-6 and our 14u were defeated by PBI club team by a score of 13-5.

12 u play the finals against the Jersey Bulldogs in Dumont at noon and the 9u play in franklin lakes at 12:30.

Fall Baseball Playoffs

Our 8u, 9u, 12u and 14u's have made the Fall Baseball playoffs.

Playoffs commence on this sunday 10-29 and finish up on 11-5.

The Domalewski Family Fund

The Closter Coaches Association Leadership Committee is asking our membership to help out on a cause that has touched every parent and coach throughout all of our communities.

As you have all heard, Steven Domalewski is a 13 year-old boy whose heart stopped briefly when he was hit in the chest by a line drive during a Wayne P.A.L.
baseball game in June. The impact occured between heartbeats causing a rare condition called commotio cordis.
Steven fell into a coma. Doctors treating Steven say he is now in a "mild coma".
According to Dr. Philip DeFina, who is leading the team from the International Brain Research Foundation, some of Steven's brain systems are coming back, but he is at the beginning of a long process.

We have decided to make a contribution thru the CCA to The Domalewski Family Fund. The CCA will be
donating $ 200.00 dollars to start off.
Thru donations from The Closter Coaches where hoping to send the family a nice amount.

We will be accepting donations thru paypal or by making a check out to the The Domalewski Family Fund and getting it to me Lou Iovino at 180 ruckman rd. we will mail off our donations on October 14th.

12 Yr old Crushers finish 8th in Cooperstown

The Closter Crushers Summer Baseball team visited Cooperstown All Star Village last week ( August5th thru 11th) and finished 3-3 in a 6 game tournament. Winning the bye in the 1st round, they lost to the So. Cal Spartan in the 2nd round by a score of 12-7.
The Highwood Braves from Illinois defeated the So. Maryland Seminoles for the crown.

Closter Major " A" goes undefeated

Closter NEBAS Major "A" Baseball ( 12 yr old) team went 13-0 thruout the regular season and the playoffs beating Park Ridge 9-5.
" The team played their hearts out this year and they worked extremely hard this season" Quoted Manager Lou Iovino.

Next stop is Cooperstown where they willl play 50x70 format against teams from around the country.

Girls Softball Camp Available

Parents, Players and Coaches,We have been notified by The Northern Valley Regional High School at Demarest that they will be offering a Softball Fever Camp this summer from July 24th through July 27th. The camp will be run by the High School Softball Coaching staff.Softball Fever Camp is designed to provide young girls the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of softball in a fun and exciting environment. Girls 8 - 15 are encouraged / invited to attend (including incoming Freshmen). I believe the towns of Closter, Demarest and Haworth have been invited to the Camp. Camp Objects - Softball Fever Camp will provide both offense and defense instruction in a safe environment. The campers will have the opportunity to practice their skills and be able to apply those skills in game play. Whether you are just starting out or aspire to play at the high school level, Softball Fever Camp will help you improve your skills and have a great time.Please see the attached brochure. Closter Girls 5/6 All Star Softball Team does great !!

Last weekend, Closter entered an All-Star 5/6 grade girls softball team into the Old Tappan Juniors Softball Tournament. It was a double-elimination tournament that ended for Closter 11-7 tonight at the hands of Old Tappan. Closter came in third place for the first time ever!The tournament was highlighted by two very exciting games: In game 2, with two outs in the last inning and facing elimination from the tournament, the girls scored 5 runs to tie the game, and won the game in extra innings with an exciting play at home plate.In game 4, again with two outs in the last inning, the girls fought back and scored 4 runs, unfortunately coming up short.
congratulations to all the Girls and their coaches.

Closter Recreation’s Challenger Program

Volunteers are desperately needed for our Spring Challenger Program for "differently abled children". One hour on Saturday mornings: 10:30am - 11:30am.
No experience necessary. No equipment is needed. Just show up at the Girl's Softball Field at Memorial.
It is rewarding for everyone involved.

Next CCA monthly meeting: 8:30pm, Thursday, June 15 at Delmonico's, Schraalenburgh Rd. All coaches are urged to attend...complimentary refreshments will be served.

Baseball / Softball Team Photos

Pictures will be taken on June 13th and 15th in Tenakill School Gym.
Information, schedules and order forms will be sent home via your child's coaches. Please complete the order form prior to arriving for the shoot in order to help expedite the process. Payment is due at the time of the shoot. Bring a check or cash.
The schedules are also posted on the CCA web-site: http://www.clostercoaches.com/.
PLEASE have your child attend the picture session for their team even if they do not wish to make a purchase.
The team pictures are keepsakes for all of the children, and we also give-out sponsor plaques to each team's sponsor as a token of appreciation for their support. For these reasons, it is important for each child to attend the photo shoot session.
Please arrive several minutes prior to your scheduled session as the schedule is tight for taking these photos. If for some reason, you do not receive an order form prior to arriving for the shoot, extra forms will be available in the gym. Leave sufficient time to complete the form so that you are ready at the scheduled time.

Closter 12 u team went 4-0 ( 3 shut outs) and heads to the finals on Memorial Day. Location is Woodcliff Lake at 11:30 am.

Memorial Day Softball Game

All Closter Recreation coaches and their families are invited to the Annual Memorial Day Coaches Softball Game and Picnic/Barbecue on Friday, May 26, 7:00pm at Memorial Field. (Rain date on Sat. eve.) Please check the RecLine @ 201-750-9507, mailbox 6, for inclement weather questions.

Additionally, we are urging all children from all teams to march in uniform in the Memorial Day Parade. The parade will assemble at 11:30am on Monday at St. Mary's parking lot, and start promptly at Noon. After proceeding through the center of Closter, the parade will end at Memorial Park with presentations and ceremonies to honor the brave men and women who have made the supreme sacrifice for our country. Immediately following the Memorial Day service, there will be refreshments and food served at the Closter Elks lodge located on Railroad Ave. All participants are welcome to attend. Even if your entire team isn't marching, we will be marching as a Recreation GROUP. Please make every effort to participate in this important community tradition.
